After the earthquake, Delhi Metro Train Stops for 15 minutes, thousands affected


NEW DELHI: The trains in the corridor of Delhi Metro today came to a halt as soon as tremors hit the national capital. Services resumed after 15 minutes, leaving thousands of passengers stranded.

Even after services resumed, trains ran at a very slow pace and it took a long time for normal operations to be restored as a comprehensive security check was carried out.

"Metro services were suspended 14: 40-14. 55 in view of the earthquake Thereafter, train services were brought to the normal routine after ensuring security control structures," said a senior official DMRC.

He said train services stopped according to the standard procedure and that wide safety check was part of it.

"It is better not to use them when you are driving," Strayer said.
"We look for possible derailment or damage to the structures of the station. Each major component looked," the official said.

Nearly 27 lakh passengers get metro services daily connecting Delhi with several pockets of the major settlements National Capital Region (NCR), like Gurgaon, Noida and Faridabad.

The earthquake epicentred in the Hindukush mountain range in Afghanistan occurred at around 14.40, sending ripples through several states including Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, NCR, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan.
